5 Strategies to Improve Your ToonTone Score

How to Get Better at Color Matching

1. Think in HSL, Not Names

Instead of thinking "Naruto's jacket is orange," think about the specific hue, saturation, and lightness. Is it a warm orange or a cool orange? Highly saturated or muted? This trains your color memory to be more precise.

2. Use the Wheel Strategically

Start with hue (the angle on the wheel), then adjust saturation and lightness. Most players lose points on saturation — anime colors tend to be more saturated than you remember.

3. Consider the Era

Older anime (80s-90s) tends to use more saturated, primary colors. Modern anime often uses more nuanced, desaturated palettes. The show's era is shown in the question — use it as a clue.

4. Save Hints for Unfamiliar Characters

If you know a character well, trust your memory. Save hints for characters from shows you haven't watched recently. The 30% penalty is steep, but getting 56 points is better than getting 20.

5. Practice with Purpose

After each round, study the comparison between your guess and the target. Over time, you'll calibrate your internal color memory and improve naturally.
